We are back onboard!
And what a wonderful feeling to find our Seabelle safe and sound, just as we left her. We meticulously check every inch of the boat for winter damage – we hear the temperatures went down to -57°C. At first approach, It seems she survived the winter very well. The only visible damage so far are a couple of broken glass soy sauces (luckily, in a container) and our inclinometer has broken. Other than that, all seem in good condition. If anything, the dryness of the arctic winter has left zero mould inside. What a relief!
Over the next few weeks, we will go through all our systems and ensure everything is good working order before continuing our journey. While the ice left the river only last week, the arctic ocean is still heavily packed and we don’t expect to get out of here until mid-july. We allowed plenty of margin in case of any damage following the harsh winter, shipping of any spare parts does take a long time to get up here. Fingers crossed, all systems are good!
